Supporting PHP Infrastructure

With the critical PHP security issues this week, and having just paid my taxes, I thought it would be an opportune time to go through and share a bonus of revenues with the many people, groups and projects which are part of the PHP infrastructure, or those I observed handling these PHP releases.

For the below donations today, I allocated £2,600.00 which represents 4.4% of the (pre-tax/costs) total revenue received in 2025 across donations, sponsorships and support services.

These are not the only donations I make under BookStack. I also support many open source projects, primarily focused on BookStack’s dependencies, via a £400 per month GitHub sponsors bill, plus many other one-off donations throughout the year. Many of the below overlap with those prior/existing donations.

I’m performing, and sharing, this extra bonus round of donations to support those that have helped with this event, and to help encourage others to do the same where able, while also highlighting those who are important during a scenario like this.

This is only possible thanks to all those that have generously sponsored BookStack, provided donations, or purchased our support services. Thank you all so much! 💖

PHP Foundation

Donated £350.00 - Donation link

The (relatively recently created) foundation helping to organize and fund core work on PHP itself. They help a lot when it comes to security work and coordinated efforts like this.

Ondřej Surý

Donated £250.00 - Donation link

Packages PHP for Debian and Ubuntu environments. Heavily relied upon in the PHP world, and did a fantastic job handling this event.

Remi Collet

Donated £250.00 - Donation link

Packages PHP for RHEL-based environments (AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, Fedora). Again, heavily relied upon, and had his vacation interrupted to help users stay safe.

Shivam Mathur

Donated £250.00 - Donation link

Helps provide PHP in a range of ways which is especially helpful for development and testing.

Debian

Donated £250.00 - Donation link

The wonderful community-led distro that so many use. Quickly had new packages available.

Ubuntu

Donated £100.00 - Donation link

Another heavily used distro, built on Debian. Had clear information for this event, and fixes quickly available.

Alpine

Donated £250.00 - Donation link

Another wonderful community-led distro that’s heavily relied upon, especially in the container world. Had to churn out a large bunch of new PHP packages.

Arch Linux

Donated £100.00 - Donation link

A distro not so often used server-side, but popular with hobbyists. Quickly had the new PHP version made available.

AlmaLinux

Donated £100.00 - Donation link

IMO, the most community-focused RHEL-based distro. Had clear fix information for this scenario.

LinuxServer.io

Donated £150.00 - Donation link

A great community, providing great container images, including for BookStack. Got a little hassled during this, while waiting for upstream packages to be available, but were very much on the case.

Martin Rys

Donated £100.00 - Donation link

Packages BookStack for the Arch User Repository. Was very quick and receptive when I contacted him with changes to be made for BookStack in the AUR.

Donated £100.00 - Donation link

Lead engineer of Home Assistant, who also seems to have become the one maintaining the BookStack Home Assistant community app.

Mastodon

Donated £100.00 - Donation link

The Mastodon social network proved quite useful during this for news and support from others, and for getting information out there.

Fosstodon

Donated £100.00 - Donation link

The instance of Mastodon used by BookStack. Well maintained by a great team.

PHP Community Foundation

Donated £150.00 - Donation link

Provides the PHP Community Mastodon instance, which was used by many core PHP developers, who were helping put out information to help inform and counter misinformation.
